Last month, the 2018 Paris Motor Show took place over two weeks in the heart of France. Every two years, the show runs where companies will unveil their new and novel innovations to the automotive market. This year, the 2018 show was no exception. Attendees were able to see:
A GPS system that is more accurate than nature
Mercedes revealed an intelligent system which is able to film the landscape in front of the vehicle, and then display it on the internal SmartScreen, which then directly affects the navigation system.
Gesture and voice commands
To scroll through the media center and entertainment systems, which are becoming more and more complex, BMW have developed a system which recognizes gestures from the driver. For example, to turn the music volume up, you just need to make circles with your hand in front of the dash board!

A smooth ride
A number of car manufacturers presented systems which are able to analyse the road in front of the vehicle and identify obstacles coming up on the road (potholes, obstructions etc.). This sends an alert to the onboard computer which instantly adapts the firmness of the suspensions so that the obstacle is hardly felt.
Keeping an eye on your car
Thanks to extending the connectivity range, it’s now possible to keep an eye on your car even when you lend it to a loved one or friend. It is now possible to set a geographical limit in terms of distance, as well as a speed limit for the vehicle. The systems will send the owner of the car a notification when this limits are not adhered to.
Stuck at a dead end?
Has it ever happened where you enter in a narrow street that has a dead-end but a u-turn isn’t possible? This will soon be nothing more than a bad memory as BMW presented a system able to automatically reverse around 80 meters, following exact same path just taken by the vehicle.
A radio controlled car
With the trend of parking spaces are becoming ever narrower, it has made getting out of your car after parking much more difficult. Tesla & BMW proposed a remote control system using an app on your smartphone. So, the user can move the vehicle forward or backward with their phone.
To sum up, the Paris Motor Show is a place where leading innovations are showcased. Which raises the question, what will be the new innovation on show at the next event in 2020? See you there!
