As part of the Innovation Dublin festival, R&D finance experts Leyton yesterday hosted an motivating event on the topic of Irish R&D Incentives and how they can help grow your business. Dearbhail Fahey of Leyton discussed the R&D Tax Credit, while John Smith from Enterprise Ireland highlighted R&D grants that are available for Irish businesses. Two of Leyton’s clients, Ergo and I-tab were also in attendance to showcase their innovation success stories to attendees.
Andrew O’Reilly, Commercial Manager at Leyton said “We are delighted to be part of such a successful and prestigious event such as Innovation Dublin. Innovation is a key driver of our business and we fully support companies engaged in R&D. We had an exceptional turn out and it is encouraging to see so many companies still taking innovation seriously in this country.”
Companies now more than ever, need to explore innovation to help increase sales, improve profits and maximise market share. Undertaking R&D can help businesses in Ireland achieve these goals by assisting them to make changes to products, services and processes which deliver major benefits.
One company that is reaping such benefits is Ergo Ltd. Michael Mongan of Ergo yesterday shared his company’s success story of how they started from humble beginnings in 1993 to become a now strong global organisation.
During his presentation, Michael stated, “Funding has played a major part in Ergo’s expansion strategy. In order to be successful, we knew we needed the right people behind us. Enterprise Ireland funded us over a 3 year period while Leyton supported us in our R&D Tax Credit claim. Leyton’s technical expertise linked with their experience of legislation was invaluable to us. They structured the claim in line with our business and the rules & regulations of the claiming process. This support, from both entities, has directly affected our growth strategy in a positive way.”
Leyton’s goal is to encourage companies to become more innovative and in doing so, help them make the most of R&D incentives that are available in Ireland.
Tony Saliwonczyk from I-tab added “I-tab Ltd. is proud to have been involved with Innovation Dublin 2010. We were happy to share our success story having started from the product concept through to R&D and production. R&D incentives have been a major factor in the start up of our business and have helped us to our successful product launch in 2010. Our customer base has now encompasses America, Ireland, UK and Europe.
Tony also praised the work of Leyton in their support through the R&D Tax Credit claim, “With the assistance of Leyton, R&D Tax credits have been received for R&D activities in 2009. We found Leyton a huge help due to their technical expertise and support of the claim. The R&D Tax Credit allows I-tab to expand its product portfolio in addition to the portable songbook to include other innovative products.”
Also presenting at the event was John Smith from Enterprise Ireland who stated, “The Innovation Task Force has set out its belief that future economic success will depend on increasing the levels of innovation over the spectrum of industry and commerce in Ireland. There is general evidence that companies that continue to invest significantly in new product, process and service development outperform other companies. Through its range of supports, Enterprise Ireland intends to provide the impetus and support for this increased innovation."
Companies investing in R&D not only experience positive impacts on productivity but they are better placed to benefit from globalisation and in turn, this helps the region’s growth path. Such activities will help foster a knowledge-based economy, and aid position Ireland as an attractive place to do business.
